When you log in to Social Explorer, you land on the Home page. It is your starting point for maps, reports, and data. You can return to it at any time by clicking Home in the left-hand sidebar.
The Home page has the following sections, from top to bottom.
Explore the Map
This card opens the main U.S. demographic map. Click Open the map to start exploring data on a map right away.
Browse Datasets
This section lists datasets you can work with. Switch between two tabs:
- Latest: the most recently published datasets.
- Most Popular: the datasets Social Explorer users open most often.
Each dataset row has three actions:
- Info icon: opens the dataset documentation and data dictionary.
- Begin Report: opens the Reports app in a new tab with this dataset selected, so you can choose geographies and tables. See Create a Report.
- Open in Maps: opens a map with data from this dataset.
To see all available datasets, click Open Data Library. See Find data in the Data Library.
Recent Map Projects
Your most recent map projects appear here, up to six, with the date each was last modified. Click a project to open it, or click View all to go to My Projects, where you can also find your stories, reports, and templates. See Manage your work in My Projects.
This section appears only after you have saved at least one map.
Maps by Region
Start from a ready-made map for a specific region: All Demographics (United States), Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Europe, and World.
| Note: What you see depends on your plan. If you use Social Explorer through your institution's network without logging in, Recent Map Projects is not shown, and you can't create or save projects. Create a personal account to save your work. |
Welcome screens
The first time you log in, a welcome screen shows a few ways to get started, such as jumping to a map or browsing the Data Library. You can close these screens at any time.
